HVAC sheet metal guys have more tricks up their sleeve than I could ever count. Those orange plastic wire dish scrubbies thingees make a great anti-critter barricade when a chunk is cut off the pad and stuffed up the drip end of the evaporator drain tube. If you're real fussy, bend the drip end into a U to make a trap.
