I just tried mine,...the elevation crank is supposed to turn while turning the directional pointer. The whole assy turn together. Where is the problem ??

Well then I guess my antenna has been malfunctioning for the last six years because the crank handle did not and should not be turning when moving the directional handle. Do you really think that the system is designed so that the antenna lowers when you change the direction is being pointed? Maybe yours is not working right and you don't know any better because it's always been like that for you,however that doesn't mean it's working right.
