Thanks for stepping in. The discussion is so elementary. Don't know why some have such a hard time with it. Actually I do, they got confused with P = I^2 * R.
P = V * I is the correct way to look at it.
To wrap this all up,
1. the wire voltage drop between panel and controller is referenced to Vmp.
2. the wire voltage drop between controller and battery is referenced to V_bat.
3. the efficiency of controller is referenced to V_bat.
All three percentages can be added together to get a total % voltage drop. This is equal to the % battery charging current drop to.
