Wireless Back Up Camera

I know this has been discussed, but not recently. I am looking to purchase a moderately prices system for my 22' MH. Any recommendations from current users would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have one that I purchased from Tadi Brothers and it is GREAT, I did have to add an extension cable to move the transmitter closer to the front of the trailer but they sent it to me for free. Great product at a reasonable price and customer service is excellent.
  • Be sure to try out different mounting locations before committing to one. Many say the higher the better to get distance perception. I have mine looking down through the top of the back window.

Prices should start below $100. I just bought a $50 Dlink camera that's sends video via wifi and can be seen on a smartphone. It is intended to be a way of keeping watch on the stick house while on the road but surely a backup camera can be made for the same cost.

This might be exactly what I'm looking for. Sending you a pm, Soundguy.
  • I used a Peak wireless camera system for a few years until it finally died a couple of years ago so I replaced it with a much better Swift Hitch SH02. The SH is much better built and the feature I like the most is that both the monitor and camera/transmitter are self powered and require no interfacing to the vehicle itself. I found the Peak pretty useless for watching traffic behind me or for backing into campsites as the view was so fisheye and the ability to display a decent picture with both bright and dark elements in the picture quite poor. These days I use the Swift Hitch (5 pics) just for hitching up and for that it's invaluable. :B
  • I got a wireless rear backup camera for around $100 from amazon.com . I think the brand was Peak, like the antifreeze. I've had it about 3 years now. It works OK. The only complaints I have are that it is prone to interference from things like traffic counters, wireless cameras and the image looks washed out in bright sunlight. The monitor is an over the mirror type and the camera itself is meant to mount on the license plate, though I had it mounted on the bumper. I had mine wired so that it is on when the lights are on. This way, I can make sure that the towd is still back there.
  • I just installed a unit from Tadi Brothers. Installation was fairly easy. I have a camera for the back of the 5th wheel to leave on all the time while traveling and a license plate camera for the truck to come on when put in reverse. I haven't taken a trip yet but I have tested it in the driveway. Seemed to work good. I got the monitor that clips over my rear view mirror. The other monitors seemed too large for my dash.
