I need to add a 30amp plug to the outside of my garage to plug our 5th wheel into. I already have a 50amp 220v feed ran out for hooking up air comressor, welders and such. I am getting a 50amp service panel that contains a 30amp and 20amp plug with seperate breakers for each. Since they contain their own breakers would their be any issue with running that panel off one leg of the 220 I already have.Well actually I know it will work, what does code have to say about it?Here is the panel

Yes, there could be issues. Most compressors and welders do not utilize a neutral conductor. They are strickly 220 volts. Two hots and a ground.Panel you show is 120 volts. Three wire hot, neutral and ground.

Yes, You can run the 120V plugs off of one leg of the 50A service. This is a normal condition and is done all the time.

I would wire the 30 to one side and the 20 to the other.

To summarize:If you have a neutral, all would be fine (you need a hot, neutral and ground for either 20 or 30 amp service). Wiring the hot for the 20 amp outlet from one leg and the 30 amp from the other leg would be preferable, particularly if you ever want to use both at the same time.

When I wired our older barn, I used the 14-50R receptacles with neutrals everywhere I wanted 240 volt. Then I just use short adapters for my welders and plasma cutter. On the new barn, my plan is to do the same, but may add one of these full RV panels as well at where I plan the RV drops.

Instead of the master electrician, you need one who just barely has their Journeyman license. That way they have experience but still new enough not to be complacent.

I purchased a full on Panel and installed at my house! Nice to have that 50Amp!

Should be easy with the full RV subpanel as the 30a connector has but a single breaker.

Thanks, I ordered up a full 50-30-20 panel to put in. Now I will have to buy a new 5th wheel so I can make use of it :)

X2. You can't go wrong with having 100 amps (50 amps on each leg) ready to go.

Of course, the standard warning applies. Even if you have it wired by a master electrician, check it with a voltmeter. I read way too many stories of people with RV-shaped objects after they plugged into a dryer outlet or a miswired 30 amp receptacle.

+1 to wire direct to the full 50/30/20 panel if the existing connector is unused.

Withe full four wires system you will not have a problem.
Best to add the full box with a 15/30 and 50 amp receptacle
