If the inverter part of the inverter charger breaks, then I have a spare 1000 watt psw inverter to put into service.
The cost for this sort of back up was a whole $150.00.
So there are no worries about a failure being a trip "ender"
The inverter/charger was $1700.00. I did have one fail. The company replaced it under warranted.
I suppose that with a 100 amp converter, one could make a case for using double conversion instead. But that may require more shore power amperage than is often available, given the poor power factor of many converters. That would require access to the shore power breaker. In many of my stops--I do NOT have that access.
When doing double conversion, the reverse polarity fuses got pretty warm and deformed. It is a PD 30 amp unit with poor power factor. The 2 30 amp fuses did not fail.
My 1250W inverter cost me $280 US, my PD9160 with CW cost $180 US..
All in, $460 US.. Compare that to all in one solution which at the time was around $1200 US and in the inverter size I wanted only had two stage 30A charging..
I will take that savings any day over a packaged "convenience" at a higher price.
