Wiring question help please

Probably a basic question but...

I'm stalling a fantastic fan (12V). I'm thinking is putting in a fuse holder with a 20 amp fuse so I can remove fan to service or whatever at a later date. I'm really just using the fuse holder as a quick disconnect for the wires. Fan comes fuse protected with a 4 amp "slo blo" type fuse. Fuse holder will be on pos and neg side.

OK or not OK?

(trying to clear out junk box collected over the years as side benefit).

Another decent option is a plain old wire nut, preferably taped to prevent self-disassembly from bouncing around. It is a bit more work to disconnect, but how frequently are you going to unplug your bathroom exhaust fan?
  • Particularly if this is in the POSITIVE feed, that needs to be a protected/insulated spade connector.

why not just use a simple spade connector.

I see no problem using spade connectors, but not the type you have shown. The female spade needs to be covered with an insulator.

As for the question about using fuses I guess that you could, but I would not. Just another point for something to go wrong. JMO
  • You may never have to remove the fan for maintenance but just leave a little slack in the wires so that you can cut them and use butt connectors when you reinstall the fan.
