Motorola broke the ice in the sixties with a modular repair. Quasar. Slip-in modules. Repairable. My Mcintosh system used tubes for the preamplifier and final amplifier.
If someone tried to repair, say a hundred fifty dollar Sears battery charger you're screwed. Take it back to Sears, they'll send it to the Blue Smoke battery charger Ltd importer and they'll send it to USA landfill.
If T**M* wants to win the trade war, demand that all appliances be designed to be repairable and that all must be shipped back to the manufacturer for disposal.
And set up Mexico to beat the Chinese at their own game. It's so stupid out there that US importers take Mangos from Vietnam while cheaper and better mangos hang to rot in Mexico.
I realize STUPID cannot be cured. But to go out of your way to ELECT it is even stupider of maybe it's concealed corruption.
This should be a MAJOR political issue. Make it so there is a southbound stampede.
