Wood hole - Water damage

I am dealing with an anchor in the roof that wasn't sealed properly. Water damaged the area around the hole but seems to be only 1/4" to 1/2" I am wondering if i need to remove the damaged (damp) wood or can I just seal the holes with Eternabond?

Take the time and do it right. It will be easier in the long run.

X2. Leaving the damaged wood in there would be like leave a little rot on an apple. Eventually it's going to cause more problems.
