OK so I have been researching the "to replace or not replace" my OEM converter to death. I must say, after reading the owner's manual as well as the website for my OEM Parallax 7345, I am a little confused. I have read posts from those who think the 7300 series is pure******for charging batteries because it is a "single stage." They say to "upgrade" to a 3-stage converter/charger for better charging rates, and that it wont boil your battery once charged. I understand this principle, however, this is a direct cut-and-paste from my Parallax 7300 series manual: "Your Parallax 7300 Series power converter is capable of delivering it's full rated output to the battery(s) if needed, but will taper off to a few hundred milliamps when the battery(s) are at full charge."
THIS sounds to me like a multi-stage charger. In another section of the same manual it explains that if the converter/charger detects the batteries are low, and there is very little draw in the coach (no lights on etc), then it will deliver full charge power to my batteries (in my case, 45 amps) until it reaches full charge, and then back off.
Is this owner's manual lying? Is it a misprint? Why the rush to replace these converter/chargers with "better" units with "wizards" and such? BTW, during storage, I maintain my coach batteries with a float charger and not the 7345 converter/charger. This is just because I don't like keeping the RV coach plugged in for 7 straight months, using more electricity than I need to just to keep the batteries charged.
So what am I missing here?
