Zamp solar panel

Anyone out there have and use a Zamp solar unit with a prewired TT?
Our TT came wired for one and am wonder whether to get one. Any advise on what size to get would be useful also.

Love our Zamp portable. Use it for several things as well as when boondocking. Low battery in riding lawnmower. No problem! Low battery on motorcycle. No problem!

While the price might appear high the units are solidly built and, in my humnle opinion, worth every penny. Maybe the cheaper models know what their product(s) are worth.

  • Work around the prewire by going to high voltage cells say 60 volts and a good reliable MPPT controller with a temperature sensor on the battery bank and adjustable set points.

Er... Don, those are odd roof ports with 2-pin connectors and thin wires rated to ~15A per port. Intended for 2*100W 12V array per port, IIRC. Somebody here had it.

I would research other panels and controllers, but, but... You'll rarely find panels with 2-pin connectors. Other panels mostly have MC4 connectors, can be replaced with 2-pin (not that I like it, but can be done). If you're not much into planning and DIY-ing, getting all the parts from Zamp could make sense, depends for how much.

    Their controllers look rather basic.
  • I have the Zamp 30A ZS-30A controller and 160W panel pre-installed on my 5er and have been happy with it. Batteries seem really happy so I am happy. Plan to add another panel some day.

  • Hi,

The prewire can be used with any brand of solar panel.

Start with an energy audit to see what size panel(s) would be appropriate to your needs.
