Looking for those that made the switch from a gas TV to a diesel some questions.
1. Happy with your choice?
Yes!
2. Are maintenance cost as high as you were lead to believe?
Depends on what you were led to believe. My only non maintenance repair in 110,000 miles so far was the fan clutch.
3. What gas rig did you switch from, to which diesel?
I guess I don't see this as important. My last truck was also a Ram/Cummins. If you are towing more than 10,000 pounds and especially in the mountains you are in diesel terrority. The Ford towing guide provides for a deduct of about two percent of tow rating for each 1000 feet elevation for gas engines and none for the diesel. In the mountains, if you tow there, the diesel flattens the hills. If you have not experienced that you will be in for a real treat. Some gas engines have a tow rating of higher than 10,000 pounds but once the frontal area and elevation deducts are taken into consideration the rating is less. Where I live, if I drove a Ford or followed their guide, just for elevation the gas engine deduct would be around 14 percent and that does not consider frontal area deducts. So, a 12,000 pound gas engine tow rating is really more like 10,300 at any significant elevation in the Sierras or Rocky Mountains.
4. What are you pulling and what is its GVW?
See comment above about what is diesel engine terrority.
5. Will your next TV be Gas or Diesel?
Oil burner, most likely.
Just looking for honest feedback from those that have stepped from gas to diesel as a TV. This is NOT a gas vs. diesel, but real life feedback from those that have changed to diesel both positive and negative.
110,000 on my Ram/Cummins and only repair was the radiator fan clutch. Best, so far, motor vehicle I have ever owned except three BMW motorcycles and one airplane. So far I have not looked back!
To the moderators, this is NOT a gas vs diesel post, looking for honest feed back from members who have made the switch, and if it was a positive or negative experience for them.
