Looking for those that made the switch from a gas TV to a diesel some questions.
1. Happy with your choice? Yes! I'll most likely never go back to a gas TV
2. Are maintenance cost as high as you were lead to believe? Not really. Crankcase takes 10 qts vs 5 qts in previous gasser. Air filter costs more for diesel. Other maintenance/repairs have not been any different or more costly than my previous gasser.
3. What gas rig did you switch from, to which diesel? Gasser was 1999 5.3L Chevy to a 2006 6.6L Chevy diesel.
4. What are you pulling and what is its GVW? I'm towing 2012 Jayco Pinnacle with GVW of 14,950#s. I have installed air bags to help level the TV when hitched.
5. Will your next TV be Gas or Diesel? I hope this LBZ Duramax diesel will be my first and only. I'd be hard pressed to be convinced to go back to a gasser.
In addition to the towing power of the diesel, I am getting almost 25% better mileage over the '99 5.3 engine. And, I'm towing an estimated 5000 more pounds with the diesel now than the bumper pull TT I had with the '99 5.3. This helps me justify the additional cost of diesel fuel as long as diesel is within 25% the cost of gasoline.
Just looking for honest feedback from those that have stepped from gas to diesel as a TV. This is NOT a gas vs. diesel, but real life feedback from those that have changed to diesel both positive and negative.
To the moderators, this is NOT a gas vs diesel post, looking for honest feed back from members who have made the switch, and if it was a positive or negative experience for them.
Good luck with what ever you are going to decide what to do!
