1. Happy with your choice?
2. Are maintenance cost as high as you were lead to believe?
3. What gas rig did you switch from, to which diesel?
4. What are you pulling and what is its GVW?
5. Will your next TV be Gas or Diesel?
Answers to your questions (when I had a diesel, of course):
1) absolutely loved it.
2) No, they were not higher. Oil changes were a wash given the higher interval for changes on the diesel. Air filter was a little more, and the fuel filter needed regular changes on the diesel. A non-issue in my book.
3) From an '05 Suburban 1500 5.3 4 spd.
4) Relatively light TT, GVW in the range of 7200 if I recall correctly. Easy work for the Duramax.
5) See below ...
We got our TT and towed for a couple seasons with our '05 Suburban. Wasn't happy with the performance, so we upgraded to the '06 2500HD Duramax. Absolutely loved the Duramax.
We had another 2 kids while towing w/ the Duramax for 3 seasons, for a total of 4 now. So the Dmax went up for sale, and we got another Suburban. This one w/ the 6 spd is a lot better than the older 4 spd we had, but obviously is no comparison to the 2500 diesel, which I miss every time we hook up and go.
I loved towing with the diesel; it actually made long towing trips fun! Unfortunately, the need for seats won out.
Our next TV/RV will probably a diesel, but it will likely be either a Super C MH or a 6-door pickup ...
