happier with 2002 duramax allison purchased new
previous truck was 1997 chev K2500 with 7400 vortec and 4L80 trans.
the maintenance costs are not really higher.
my local gmc dealer offered oil, filter , lube for the same price as a k2500 gasser except for the extra 5 quarts.
i go a little farther between changes now than i did with the previous 6 largest engine gas 2500 trucks.
the diesel is just more relaxing on the highway due to low rpms.
hd 2500 rides rougher than a 1500 of course .
but the brakes , tires, suspension , transmission are heavy duty and are not taxed at all . service life of this diesel is double the gasser .
i was trading every 5 years since my first new car a 1972 factory ordered suburban C20 with the 402 big block.
i have owned this duramax twice as long as any car/truck .
i just keep up the service and the appearance.
Oregon does not salt the highways in Northern Oregon.
I live in the High Desert , no rust , and my truck is garaged.
it still looks new , seriously .
