Why did the heads cost anything? Cummins has 100,000 mile warranty. I had a head crack on my 98 Cummins Ram, and it scorched the #1 cylinder. Ram put new head, new short block, new turbo on, and it cost me $50 deductible. NO extended warranty, standard. I also had 106,000 miles, but they covered it anyway with a 100,000 mile warranty. No questions.
Not covered due to reasons why the heads blew. Part of the Ford 6.0 saga where lawsuits are still ongoing to this day. I wanted to have it bullet-proofed (around $8K to do the job right) but wife said no way, go buy a new truck so I did. Despite the repairs needed I still got a decent trade-in.
