Only Toyota steps up to the plate to correct design defects. I would have gone with a Toyota diesel over anything from the big three if they had one in the USA. My brother blew the head gasket on his Toyota with the V-6 engine at 110,000 miles and Toyota paid for a full rebuild of the engine and gave him a 100,000 mile warranty on it. He has now put an additional 200,000 miles on that engine.
I have driven a Tundra for 8 years (I bought it at 1 year old). It is nice to not worry about having to ever do repairs on my truck. I do the regular maintenance, and, after that, I just drive it. I haven't had to do one repair to it since I've had it, and it now has 118,000 miles.
The same is true for the Tacoma I bought new and drove 100,000 repair-free miles. Same story on the Corolla. Same on the Civic and CRV Honda's my wife has owned over the last 13 years.
I would like to move up to a 3/4 or 1 ton, and wish Toyota made even a gas 3/4 ton Tundra. Come on Toyota, at least match the HD payload and towing package Ford is offering on their half-ton.
