I honestly can't tell you from a technical engineering standpoint how it works. And I'm not sure it it really matters to me if I do. I'm just glad it does it's job.
I've logged many (45,000+) sway free miles with mine.
Perhaps the guy having hitch-up problems needs my home made mirror. I can hitch up solo faster with my Hensley than I can with a ball coupler.
