I had a friend with a sort of similar motorhome equipped with a 454. It sometimes had issues getting rolling up a hill with a small toad behind it.

Is that considered one unit or two? Does it change if the trailer is unhitched?

If the drivetrain was upgraded a bit, it would make a nice platform for a large family. With convertible seat/beds in the front, should be able to easily handle 8-10 and convert to a bunk house to sleep 4-6 comfortably with the rest sleeping in the 5th wheel.

With the backend cut off, the dual rear axles should be able to handle the pin weight without a problem.

Only real challenge is having enough grunt from the drivetrain. If you could retrofit one of the pickup diesel engines (and transmission) from the last 10yrs, it should be able to handle it.

Only other issue I could see is can it turn sharp enough to get backed into sites.

That appears to be the remains of an old class A gasser rig that’s had the rear ten feet or so of the house chopped off, leaving the frame and the two axles as a platform for a fifth wheel hitch.

I sort of recognize the front of it. Maybe a late 80’s Pace Arrow?

And is that paint overspray on the windows and trim?

Is the TV front wheel drive? Very under powered? High geared?
From the picture I can see the long TV/short trailer might make it hard to maneuver, but where does the hill problem come from?

It is a unique setup.
Keep us updated if possible. It will definitely be interesting to see how well, or if, it can pull the 5th wheel up a steep slope.
