- LadyRVerExplorer IIThanks to everybody. Lots of food for thought. Clean driving record, only claim in 2019 and that was due to Act of God, 2 big tree limbs down on my truck in TN. Age, home state (FL) and truck (2019) are all a major factor in quotes. I tried State Farm, office here in town and they came in 200 more per year than current.
- ferndaleflyerExplorer IIIProgressive been good to me. I rear ended a car and mine and theirs were totaled. They paid regent up. Tore a 23ft awning off and they paid. I am near 80 years old also and very little increase over about 15 years. Checked others and no one came close. DP, 2 pickups, Smart car, and Mercedes.
- IDmanExplorerProgressive will drop you at renewal time if you have any claims. All companies look at the frequency of claims, not the total dollar amount.
Try State Farm. They are in every state, whereas some of the companies mentioned above are not. - hornet28Explorer

I have Progressive ins on my ATV.
My insurance agent does the shopping for me.
My car, truck, camper (agreed value) and ATV trailer (agreed value) are all covered by German Town Ins.
Until she signed me up with them I had never heard of them. One no-fault claim on my truck with absolutely no issues.
If I were you I'd check real close on that supposed "agreed value" claim. I think if you really check it out it's "stated value" which is much different than agreed value - Grit_dogTrailblazer

Progressive is not very good at handling your claim! May be cheaper but you’ll pay in the end.
Or they are... in my experience.
But I dumped them because they pulled the Flojack your rates thing on us. I asked about the name your price tool and they said it was out of order! Lol.
Everyone should realize that 90% of insurance is as good as your rate and what’s written in your policy. Very little is “service” and personal feelings. - Grit_dogTrailblazer

When was the last time you saw an office for either one?
Like my response in another insurance thread. A shingle hung out is not an indicator of a good insurance company. 21st century now. Not like the olden days! - LadyRVerExplorer IIThank you all very much. Gives me 3 more to check today. For laughs, I called USAA and lady told me they had no benefits for a deceased military spouse... no way to include them. (HUH???) So, I am not eligible as a WWII vet's spouse. I thanked her and hung up.
- bgumExplorerThe only claim I have ever had in 60 years of driving was with Progressive and they did it right. No other experience with claims. Price will go up yearly for all companies. You just have to shop around occasionally.
- otrfunExplorer IIMost independent agents I've spoken to (off-the-record, of course), say USAA, overall, offers the best value and service. With that being said, there's bad press about everything these days--including USAA. Through the years I've had claims with most of the major insurance companies at one time or another. All good experiences. However, I've found USAA to be a step above in terms of their very efficient (and fair) claims process.
Ref the use of OEM parts, to my knowledge, nearly all insurance companies start using aftermarket parts once a vehicle reaches a certain age. USAA would only accept estimates with aftermarket pricing for our '16 Ram 3500 when it was damaged by a sandstorm last year. Quickly learned that many local dealers will often supply OEM parts at aftermarket prices on a case-by-case basis. Unless you take the time to coordinate this, most body shops will just use aftermarket parts. It's very important to retain OEM parts if the parts in question are still covered by an existing (or extended) OEM warranty. - GrooverExplorer II

We were with Geico for more than 30 years. My wife was hit broadside, setting off airbags and nearly destroying the vehicle (wife was shaken, but OK). This was the only claim we ever made.
Geico more than doubled our premiums. We're with Nationwide now and very happy.
I too have been happy with Nationwide and have been with them over 30 years. Their rates have been good and they have settled all claims well, whether I am the receiving the money or someone else is.
