Tow vehicle parts shortage

I have a 2013 GMC Duramax and the TCM...(transmission control module) has went bad and for a part that is not supposed to go bad why is there a national parts shortage for them. My question is has anyone else has had this problem and what was the final result of this dilemma

  • Well my post disappeared like the tweakers who stole another 8D battery off my Jobsite last night.
There’s a whole new slew of issues that will continue to affect what we’ve considered a normal way of life for as long as any of us have been alive. Even the old goats.

Back to the EV battery thread and my comment there.
I sure like my wife’s “new” car. 7 years old but who’s counting… But it still has many parts that are in current models and would be subject to the same supply chain issues.

Sure would s uck to be financially impacted by not having a vehicle because I paid big bucks for a new warranty and new car. Instead I’m comfortable that with the fleet we have and my ability to NOT rely on car dealers will ultimately save me money and unless it gets a lot worse, not be nearly as impacted financially by the current state of supply chains.

On a professional level, just using 2 small projects as examples. Total contract values combined under $30million, I and the company I work for are facing over $3 million in losses due to schedule, supply chain escalation and lawsuits against us due to govt mandated impacts to the projects.
That immediately wipes out ALL the profit margin plus some, just due to those issues. Not counting the “normal” risks pre Covid.

Rock auto is one of the first places I checked and they are out of stock... I have my truck at the dealership and they are trying to find the part. There is 12 different dealerships in the U.S. with this part #(24256861)and are reluctant to part with it

I bet one of the 12 would part with the part if you offered to pay an extra $1000.00 to them as a "market adjustment" above the list price. Dealers are all about market adjustments now days lol.

It really sucks when "parts that are not supposed to go bad" go bad. I'm not sure where you even came up with the not supposed to go bad gem.

  • I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 CC 4x4 and so far no problems. I am also glad I have two older Rams as standby trucks in good running older just in case. Insurance is cheap. I use one for remote rough terrain fishing trips. All is good in my dodge world.
  • My 2019 Expedition MAX has been waiting for a rear diff for 6 weeks (they will end up rebuilding the entire rear axle). No loaners available either. If the Wagoneer L was available I wouldn’t be waiting.
  • How about post the part number. Somebody has it. Check rockauto.com posted above.
  • And a “part that is not supposed to go bad” is not going to get much priority to manufacture and stock.
  • A co-worker of mine had his Nissan SUV in for repair which would normally be completed within a week. They needed to order a part to finish. It took over 6-months before the part finally arrived due to supply chain shortages. He didn't have use of his SUV during this period, but got it back in a day after the part was installed.

This supply chain issue is what worries me when traveling. Especially, for vehicles that not all mechanics can work on. The nightmare scenario is breaking down, and having to leave the vehicle for weeks or months before being able to retrieve it. :E
  • Rockauto shows some in stock.
If going through dealers, everything back ordered with no idea when parts will be available.
