What model is it and do you have a pic of the space you are talking about?

My Rockwood Mini Lite has a "ton" of storage.. I've modded a few things to make the available storage more 'efficient' however..

Nothing wrong with that, and what you propose is not going to make you over weight.. Just more 'efficient'.
