You also mentioned less power... check turbo/intercooler boots and intercooler for cracks/tears/leaks, worn out boots/tubes can cause loss of power as air maybe escaping from the turbo or intercooler on the way to the intake. Also check intake manifold area, could be a leaky gasket.
This is where I would go first.

Check the black rubber boot that connects the air intake to the turbo. Mine on my 04 cracked and only showed up under load made a sound like you are describing. Ordered a new boot from the dealer power resorted and all was good again. Note at the age of your truck it maybe time to replace all the intercooler hoses also.
