Leaks wouldn't cause all those idle problems but you could still have leaks causing the high egt and power loss. The charge air boots have to be tightened regularly. I check them at oil changes. Feel all the way around the boots for soft spots/holes. It doesn't take much of a hole or loose clamp to loose a LOT of air. The boot at the turbo gets the most heat and causes the most problems.
The turbo is easy to check. Pull the rubber inlet and look for oil. There should be no end play of the shaft but a little radial play is normal especially after you push the oil out of the bearings but it must not let the wheel hit the housing. Other than that, you might have a fuel system problem causing the rough idle and maybe the noises. That mileage seems to be when a lot of them have problems. Bad fuel, running out of fuel and lack of filter maintenance are big no-no's. Craig
