04 Caddy

DH & I are in the market for a "just drive around the city" car. We saw a really sweet looking 04 Caddy Deville. The outside was perfect. Then we talked to the owner about service. 81k miles and only oil changes. No other service or maintenance. DH found black soot in the tail pipes and the front driver seat doesn't move anymore.

We've had Caddy's before and really like them. DH thinks it still might be worth having a dealer check it out, but I am seriously concerned that this vehicle is a shiny money pit.

What say you?

  • A lot depends on the price. How often where the oil changes done? It sounds like the car has never seen 65 mph. Test drive it, take it out on the highway, once warmed up get on the gas while looking at the exhaust to see any type of smoke is coming out. You may get some black smoke at first if its never been driven hard. Check the tranny fluid, does it smell burnt or feel gritty? How are the tires?

The seat can be fixed, might just be a fuse. For the right price most cars can made good again. Value is probably around $3000-$4000. Due your due diligence and look it over good.
