08 KZ Spree 289KS

My wife and I are looking to upgrade our camper and I have heard really nice things about this style camper. I do have a few questions about it though.

I have an older 88 chevy c2500 which is a two wheel drive and I am wondering if it can handle the length of this trailer.

This a quad bunk camper and I don't know much about the quality of this company, we have been older Jayco people to this point. They are asking just under 10k for it and I don't know I it is a good deal. So if anyone can help me out on those two things that would be great

  • We have a 2012 265KS which is the same as the 289KS except it doesn't have the the quad bunks so it is shorter. Other than that the floor plan is the same. We love ours and have had no issues. The U shaped dinette is great. We have been very pleased with our KZ and would recommend the brand. We especially like the king slide and have had no problems with it.
  • Hey there,

We bought that model brand new in '08.
Very functional for us as we have 3 boys, with the oldest being 6'4". That is where the 7 foot top bunks were awesome.
When I saw the rear king bed it was a no brainer for me too....I'm 6'2" and loved the length.
As for the trailer, it was very well built, and any issue we did have was handled by KZ with no problems.
Functionally, the only thing we found was a bit of a nuisance was that we didn't have a spot to get changed as our bed was at the rear and not a 'room'. Solved by waiting for the boys to clear out and use the bunk room as the designated change room.
U dinette was great, the two entrances turned out to be very handy.
At that price I think you will be very happy.

  • We've been pleased with our trailer, which we bought used when it was 3 years old. We also, had the roof problem, and KZ covered our repairs (out of warranty) as well. Other than that, no problems to report to this day. I thnk the rear slide idea was great, and am surprised they aren't more popular these days.

Your truck should be fine, so no worries there. Can't help you on the value; just be familiar with the market and you'll know if it's a good deal, for you.
  • KZ was founded over 40 years ago and until a year ago was still owned by the founder (one of the original Jayco employees). They had a great reputation for customer service but they are now part of Thor. One thing to look at in that year there could be an issue with the roof membrane causing water to wick in and rot the underlayment....I know from experience...but mine was repaired free of charge by KZ even out of warranty. This was an issue in several brands including Jayco. Check the front and back corners to see if its soft. Overall KZ made a great unit...not the fanciest but well built. As for being able to tow it....knowing the engine and trans would help in answering....but if a big block then I would say no problem
  • It has a dry weight of 5028. I think it can handle it, but I am kind of a pansy when it comes to pulling.
