1 Tons and weigh station check points

Hey All,

This is a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway! Do those of you with 350/3500 series trucks have to stop at weigh stations when on the interstates such as I-95, even when traveling light with just your truck? When driving I-95 from NY to NC last week I noticed that many weigh stations had signs that said "All Trucks with GVWR's over 10,000lbs must enter".
Don't most 350/3500's have GVWR's in the 11,000lb and up range?
Will you get pulled over if you don't stop? This seems like a major inconvenience to people that aren't commercial haulers but have 1 tons as daily drivers.

Thanks

  • Commercial Only.

My 3500 Dodge Dually w/Cummins actually weighs, loaded: 8100 pounds.
  • Keep in mind that I don't live in NY when I made my reply above...But, I can't imagine that NY has the time or resources to weigh every 1 ton pick-up that passes a weigh station.
  • Thanks! I'm considering a truck upgrade this Fall (3500) and asked because here in NY you are required to have commercial plates on HD trucks. If I had to pull into every weigh station I passed that would be a deal breaker!
