While I don't necessarily advocate for deleting trucks, if one was going to do it, this era truck would be a great candidate. The EGR system is especially dirty these years and requires a lot of maintenance. The DPF, if not properly worked, can clog up and be an expensive repair.
Deleting these emissions systems can get you more power, better fuel economy and more reliability... but at the cost of significantly higher NOX output per gallon. Depending upon how you feel about the EPA, you may or may not care. You could argue that a 2007 diesel engine can legally produce the same amount of NOX, so what's the big deal... or you could argue that the significant reduction in NOX is a worthwhile benefit for a minor setback in mileage and power.
