In other words you really should just test it out. Run a couple of tanks of each and compare.
I have to say I'm not either. I average city and highway just at 40mpg from my 14 Focus hatch with a 5 speed. Winter, summer and I run in the summer with the ac on all the time. Don't think I could do much better with non e gas but then I've never tried it because here, non e gas is about 15 cents a gallon more than 10% so there would be no savings at all.
My Focus is a flex fuel so I cab run E85 as well but never have.
