11,700 gvrw

almost picked up a Ran 3500 today. looked at a lot. most had a 12,300 GVWR but the last one, it is the SLT also and it only shows as 11,700.
why such a big gap. don't know what a 2015 3500 CC diesel ways, but I would like the other 600 lbs back
all same equip, incl Aisin tranny

    Engine liters (L): 6.7
    Cylinder configuration: I-6
    Horsepower (hp): 370 @ 2,800RPM
    Torque (lb.-ft.): 800 @ 1,600RPM
    Fuel tank (gal.): 31
    Curb weight (lbs.): 7,630
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) (lbs.): 10,700
    Payload (lbs.): 4,070
    Towing capacity (lbs.): 17,200
Gross combined weight rating (GCWR) (lbs.): 25,300

if weight is 7630 and I add 4070 that puts me over GVWR
I copied and pasted this time

I prefer using GVWR to determine payload, but most don't use this number anymore.....They use RAWR to determine how much pinweight/payload they can carry in their truck.....RAWR on 3500SRW truck is around 7500# if not mistaken
  • Unless something has changed, SRW Ram 3500 only comes with 3.42, affecting GCWR... It's the dually's with the 4.10 , Aisin tranny and 11.8" rear axle that one picks up max GVWR of 14,000# and offers a GCWR of 37,500# or more.

My 2010 3500 dually had a GVWR of 12,000# and GCWR of 24K, 2012 dually I had was 12,200# GVWR and a GCWR of 25K...13's and up blew those numbers out of the water.

RAWR on 3500 SRW is 7500# I believe....on dually with Aisin, its 9750#
  • Yes one must read the fine print, and get the correct truck if they want to tow a heavy fifth wheel. Pick that truck, and you will have very limited cargo rating compared to one with 12,000 pounds GVWR.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
