I had the same experience with a 12v coffee maker. It took almost an hour and used a *lot* of power.
I borrowed one of these from my son. Used it only one trip, and as posted it would eat up the battery pretty quick.

Coleman has an excellent drip coffee pot that works on your stovetop, and its cheap.

I have this coffee maker. It is made of plastic and tin, very bulky and difficult to store. I am always concerned with breaking the glass decanter when storing. It can be difficult to position over a burner. A little drama to keep clean, but not earth shattering. It is an attractive coffee maker and I think it makes good coffee.

Find a nice old percolator for the top of the stove. If you cannot find an old percolator try KMART

I have this pot also. It does a great job, tough pretty easy to clean. Requires very little space to store.
I tries the French Press and did not like it. The coffee was okay, but I did not like the process.
Sometimes I will use the #2 filter metlita drip on top of the cup. It is okay, but not my first choice in flavor.
Although I do take a 4-cup 120-volt pot, this is my favorite Ozark Trail Stainless Steel 8-Cup Coffee Pot. Stainless steel, light weight, easy to store and wash. The pot has a very large bottom, making it very stable on the burner. I read the negative reviews, but my experience has been very different and I've have had none of the issues listed.
I can go with either pot, the Classic-8-cup-percolator or the Ozark-Trail. I prefer the Ozark-Trail due to its large base.
To avoid having to chew the grounds, I use the coffee filters like the Flat Bottom Coffee Filters, 12-Cup Size. I poke a hole in the center of the filter to go over the stem inside of the strainer basket. Put the coffee in the filter, fold (mash) the filter over the grounds. A few drops of water (after folded) will hold the filter in place. When it is time to clean the pot the coffee grounds easily dump out in the pouch.
Oh yea, did I mention I do not like (but have used) the 12-volt pot. Did not like it at all due the the amp hours it required.
