I not only consider the taste of the coffee which is the first requirement, but also storage of the device, preparing the maker, cleaning the maker, how much water required to clean the maker and how many cups it makes. I do not like to use more water cleaning the maker, than I use in the coffee itself. I also do not like to rinse coffee grounds into the gray tank.
I may want two cups or ten (company), and prefer not to make one cup at a time. I might even take the pot outside and put it on the campfire. You can't do that with most coffeemakers.
I would like to have a nice thermos. I do not want one that is real fragile.
