We bought a little 12v auto drip for on the road many years ago, it took at least 30 minutes and the coffee was terrible. A few years back I used it to load out solar system but instead of plugging it into a cigarette light outlet, I hooked it directly to the battery. The brewing time was cut from 30 minutes to 10. So there is a possibility the wiring has a lot to do with how these preform.
To add we have used a cone filter for decades until we couldn't find the number 6 filters. Then we started using the filter basket from a bunn coffee maker, it worked just as well. Last year with the solar and all we used a 120v drip pot and this year it will be the Bunn because it keeps the water hot and I can make a silent pot pre dawn and not reheat the tank until the sun comes up.
