We are fresh ground bean coffee lovers and use the Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee maker. The beauty of this is it does all of this in about five minutes and pours up into a stainless thermos carafe. Fresh coffee stays hot all day long...
We run our coffee maker every morning when we are running on our 2KW Generator each morning when re-charging our batteries.
We tried the 12VDC coffee maker and a whole bunch of other 12VDC trucker things and it took around 5-6 hours to make a 10-cup pot drawing a bunch of DC current... Not a good choice. The coffee pot made a good way to pour oil in my truck motor haha... About the only thing I have left after spending around $150 for 12VDC items at a local truck stop is a couple of 12VDC clamp-on lights.

What model do you have?
There are so many mixed reviews on this brand, many people complaining the coffee just doesnt brew hot enough.. I like ma coffee to boil ma predators face off :D - Reddog1Explorer IIPersonally, I know a good cup of coffee when I drink it. Kinda like beer, do you think it taste the best at 40 degrees? I do not need anyone or lab to tell me what taste good to me. Coffee, do you really need to be told when it is too hot or must be processed by a given method. My bet, is that if given a blind test, each of use will know what we like, and need no drama to tell us otherwise.
I do not mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but if you need to read the label on anything to determine if you like it or not, your world is much different than mine.
Wayne - billtexExplorer IIThe problem with percolators is you have to boil the coffee-212*F, which is too hot. Ideally you want to be between 195 - 205 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal extraction, you can't do that with a percolator. Some of the better quality drip machines will hold these temps...but then you need electric.
French press or aeropress, or any of the cone filters will allow proper brewing temps. A slow process, allowing the grounds to soak, will yield more robust coffee than a quick process. And none of these require electricity. - Carb_CleanerExplorerI prefer a camp percolator with a glass (not plastic) top, watching the perc is half the fun, and metal handles that won't melt. The wire-bail handle is convenient for hanging the pot from a stick, making it easier to regulate heat while over a camp fire (as opposed to setting it on a fixed height fire grate).
I'd take a cup of percolated coffee over any other. Mmmmmmmm, coooffeeee. Gotta go with the decaf, though. - nycsteveExplorer

Find a nice old percolator for the top of the stove. If you cannot find an old percolator try KMART

As long as you have a stove top this is the way to go. - rickeoniExplorerMelitta into a stainless carafe when camping and a Cuisinart grind and brew at home.
We also bring along several types of coffee beans and gring them with a burr grinder.
Nothing beats a great cup of coffee, and that means a little time and effort in the preparation. - Mike_HohnsteinExplorer

We use a percolator also. Wonder if that basic technology is becoming a lost art?
Some are a little more particular about flavor.
Strange, I actually like perked coffee better. The problem I see with the percolators shown is they are too small, ours says 20 cups on the side. We set it up the night before, I wake up, light the burner, lay back down until it starts perking, turn it down a dab and get dressed, then take the pot outside after about 7 minutes. Yup, sometimes we get it a little chewy, but we'll survive that.
Takes all kinds to fill the freeway. Some people still buy Boyds or Folgers ground. Me, I grind my own from beans I select and people remark how nice my coffee is. I never go to Starbucks if that's an issue. - cigar_100Explorerwe had a 12 volt coffee maker, but it took forever. i love my perk pot, it makes great joe,and if you use the pre-cut filters the mess is minimal.
