12 volt system problems

I have a 2013 KZ Spree Escape E20RBT trailer. The 12 volt system works while it is hooked to shore line or to my tow vehicle. When the trailer stands on it own, the 12 volt system will not work. The battery is wired properly and the battery is full charged. Can anyone let me know where to go from here. I got the trailer in the spring new. Thanks for your help.
  • there may be a manual reset breaker clost to the battery. follow the + batt cable and look for a gray rectangle with a small black button on one end.

IF it was the in-line fuse or circuit breaker how does it work when connected to tow vehicle?

The main breaker/fuse is next to and protects the battery from a dead short. The Tow Veh. connects downstream of that, prob in the fuse panel.

Mine is just a simple 30amp auto breaker with two bolts and wires nutted down. I would disconnect the TowV and shore power, put a few lights on and then short across the bolts (i.e. with plyers) to see if they come on, if they do, your breaker is faulty and needs replaced.
  • Works on shore power...converter supplying 12V DC system

Works when connected to tow vehicle........but doesn't work on trailer battery alone :H

Are you sure battery is fully charged......have you load tested the battery?
  • we're having the same problem with our less than 1 year old Coachmen Clipper. Took it in to the shop 2 weeks ago and the service advisor said "look, it's just a fuse". Replaced fuse, turned on a light and fuse blew immediately. Left it at the shop and it's still sitting, waiting for them to fix it.

As long as it's done by August 15 (under warranty!), I can wait.
  • Definitely check for corrosion.

Our Southwind wouldn't start yesterday and I had no 12 volt power, the chassis battery is charged and in good condition.

I cleaned a little corrosion off the positive terminal of one of the 6 volt house batteries.

The engine started and everything is working normally.

A little corrosion can really mess with you.

Assuming the battery is fully charged, look for a circuit breaker or fuse within a few feet of the battery.

    X2

Also check the ground, corrosion has a habit of messing with it.
