Any chance the pump is still under warranty; it sure sounds like a pump problem.
I personally think that trying to keep the fresh water tank usable for drinking is a losing battle on an infrequently used unit; like any that is not used every few weeks year round.
If you need to really winterize, the filter system likely won't like anti-freeze. And if it is not flushed regularly even the filter system can become contaminated from growing "stuff".
