12v Golf Cart Battery?

So it appears this is the year for batteries. I have to replace the batteries in my Golf Cart and I need a new battery for the RV. I'm not interested in running 2 6v batteries in series as I never dry camp. But I would like a battery that's sufficient to run lights and such for a couple of hours should the power fail. My golf cart uses 12v US Batteries with 155 amp hours/20hr rate, 77 minutes at 75amp and 292 minutes at 25amp, can I use that battery in my RV? Would it be better than a standard Marine/Rv battery from Walmart?

Any old cheap GP24 RV/Marine battery will do what you want.

X2, if you don't need the extended capacity of dual batteries, check you local Walmart for a cheap group 24 RV battery.

    Sounds like the TROJAN T1275's

    Sure why not...

Just be mindful when you add batteries to your setup you may have to increase the DC current specs on your built-in converter/charger unit. Also it works much better if the converter/charger unit is a smart mod type...

I personally would rather have 12V batteries for my battery bank but cost is the issue to me. The GOLF CART world allows the 6V batteries to be sold at a very reasonable price as compared to what a 12VDC Deep cycle Battery will cost you...

Like you are seeing, the one 12V battery will give 155AHs capacity. It will take two Golf cart GC2 batteries in series to give you around 12VDC at 220AHs for a total cost of appx $150 for the two 6V batteries... It will be very hard to find a 12V 155AH near that cost... How much is the 12V 155AH Battery costing you now...

Roy, it's a moot point, the OP never dry camps, always hook-ups, just needs a battery to run lights a couple hours maybe. Cheap Walmart battery is perfect. Around $70

    will it work? yes.

would it be better than a standard RV/Marine battery? Likely will last longer and run longer, but better? depends on how you define better.

Given what you need I suspect a decent RV marine battery will serve you well and be less expensive.

since you don't dry camp, IMHO your not a candidate for a deep discharge or high end marine battery, just a decent marine battery. something that will last you for a few hours.
  • Sam's Club DOES sell Duracell GC12 12V golf cart batteries. They probably do not have them in stock but should be able to get them in a few days. They are less than a Trojan T-1275, but probably not as good.

Two 6V GC2 batteries are cheaper and provide more stored energy !
  • Cheapest battery that fits easily.

There's no point in spending money on capability you will never use.
