When comparing two 6v or two 12v, there's really little difference if one happens to die. It will become obvious quicker if a 6v dies, but you will likely be just as stuck if a 12v dies, as it'll probably drain it's partner too. In my case, with two 6v, I could fall back on my tow vehicle battery, generator, and solar to get through the rest of my trip before worrying about fixing what's wrong. And experience has repeatedly shown me that what's regularly available in 12v is not nearly as reliable or long lasting as what's regularly available in 6v.
