Well clearly you misunderstand engine management in modern vehicles. All of Fords new engines run "on the knock sensor", all the time. They use it to extract as much for mileage, as for power. And to suggest a knock sensor as a "bassis" for timing is just ludicrous. I have the 3.7 in my truck, it is always "listening" to the knock sensor. It is part and parcel to getting 302hp out of 3.7 litres of displacement, while allowing adequate volumetric efficiency throughout the rev range to provide the torque necessary to move a heavy truck.
Dyno tests of said engine have shown an instant increase in horsepower just by putting higher octane fuel in. Most of the gains are lower in the rpm band, (below the torque peak) where pre-ignition is more prevalent.
Or should I muddle together some techno/theory/assumption/mumbojumbo?
Oh well...another to place on my blocked list...so glad they increased allotted on my blocked list
Invoking proverbs 26:4 5...very fitting
