I don't think so. My 01 weighs 6700 lbs at the scale with full fuel and me in the driver's seat. Subtract that from the GVWR of 8600 lbs and you get 1900 lbs payload. I would love to know how you determined yours has 2900 lbs of payload.

No I have not towed in the Western mountain but have pulled many long grades in the Smokies including several in/around Asheville. I went a few miles up a 20% grade on a PA secondary road to get to a CG. Nothing ever caused the trans temp to get above 200.

To the OP, if you zoom in on a pic of the vehicle, look at the pillar between the rear door and the long side window, it will say LS or LT with "Autoride" below it. The LT came standard with leather, but you could get it as an option on the LS. The rear captain's chairs and rear audio were options regardless of trim level.

Inside the glovebox there is a sticker that has a series of 3 character codes, what GM refers to as Regular Production Options (RPO) codes, and that tells you everything the vehicle was built with. It looks like this:
