I am curious if you have weighed this truck and trailer combo ? Three seperate passes across the scales ? If so, i would love to see the scale tickets. Thanks.
No I haven't. The weighed dry weight of my particular camper (the actual weight) is 3717 pounds. The GVWR is 5,000 pounds. You can see a picture of the camper loaded (including full fresh water tank) and hooked up to the Ram by CLICKING HERE.
In that picture, there is no WDH or anti-sway device hooked to the truck. It is just the 2" hitch in the receiver.
Thanks for the picture. Nice looking setup. Enjoy.
Thanks. Now you got me curious. I'll have to get it weighed! :)
By three separate passes, do you mean truck only, truck and camper, camper only; or do you mean three separate weighings and to make sure there is no error?
By three separate weighings I mean:
1. truck by itself
2. truck and trailer without weight distribution
3. ....when weight distribution is present, the last weight pass confirms that we are distributing the correct weight back to the steer axle and trailer axle(s).
So, I stand corrected at this point that since you are not using weight distribution, for now, you will obviously not make a third pass.
EDIT: I see you have an Anderson, so it would be interesting to see how much you are actually distributing with the Anderson hooked up .
But by doing the first two passes, you can determine what your actual tongue weight is, and importantly, you will see how much weight you are removing from the steer axle. This may or may not indicate that using a WD hitch is advisable from a front axle loading standpoint.
You also have a weight limit on the receiver of the hitch, and you will then know whether you are within those limits.
There are lots of opinions about whether removing weight from the steer axle is important or not from a safety standpoint. Your choice.
I suspect, once you are loaded as you do to go camping, your actual numbers are different than what you may think. Especially tongue weight.
In the end, if it tows well, and you're happy with it, we can probably all agree that's really all that counts.
EDIT AGAIN: here is an easy to follow fill in the blank method for making the three scale weighs that will give a person the info they need. Thanks to Ron G for posting this:

I did find it needed more hitch weight. If anything, the camp lite series is to light and I think causes a bouncing condition on a heavy tow vehicle. I purchased a shocker hitch and it helped big time, alongside loading heavy towards the front end made a huge difference. The shocker lets the coach float independent of the trucks suspension.
Thank you for the update. When she is delivered I will get some pictures out. It will be different, all black, black out package,no graphics, but keeping bright dip metal on lower and rock guard. Having the shorepower moved up front for easier generator hook up from truck.Twin beds upfront, it has never been done a 21. Some other modifications as well. - djsamuelNomad

ordered a new livin lite 21 RBS, custom 3 weeks ago. Twin beds, all black, no graphics, underfloor insulation, and more. Factory more than willing to work with dealer on changes. So far it was easy. Had a 16 and now moving up. Never saw the need for weight distribution on that rig, and do not anticipate it for this one as well. Delivery due in early MARCH.
You will love that camper. There is no need for weight distribution with the 21BHS and my Ram 1500. I got the Andersen hitch for sway control and bounce attenuation. Without the hitch I've only experienced some bouncing on certain road conditions and so far no sway at all; so the Andersen hitch is more of a safeguard. Haven't installed it yet though so I can't evaluate how it works.

- gmw_photosExplorerFollowup on my conversation with the folks at the livin lite factory. They confirmed that yes, the user can fit a weight distributing hitch if needed. The use of a "clamp on" style bracket on the trailer a-frame is recommended.
In other words, I will take that to mean the consumer should not drill holes in the trailer a-frame to attach the brackets.
