19.5s F, G, H - What are you running?

My tires are due to being replaced (age ~ 7 years). Yeah, I might be able to push it a while longer, but I'm working on a plan. I wondered if there many improvements in the last few years that I've missed.

I currently run Gs that are rated at 4500ish at max air pressure which is very good for hauling a TC.

Do you run F, G, or H? Are you running 225/245/265 other? Have you noticed a sway/stability difference between brands/sizes aif you have run other brands/types?

I wanted a mud/snow tire and chose the Hankooks because they were available. They have a very sharp edge which I think tended to make the wander a lot in grooved roads.

I've also thought about going up to 265 this time, and believe I have enough clearance for a 1 inch taller tire and 1/2 inch wider tire.

  • I bought my 265x70x19.5 Michelan tires used at about 80% or better already mounted on Visions. They are 34.2" tall. I have them on my leveled 2002 F350. With the little 5.4 gasser motor and the 6 speed manual, I enjoy using granny gear to get going, since I still have 3.73 gears. Even fully loaded, weighing 10,500 to 11,500(coming back to the island after hitting home depot after our vacation to the mainland) the truck does just fine and gets 13 to 15 mpg! I know the auto tranny guys would have a tough time pulling the taller tires without a gear change, but with the ZF-6 it works well. My tires are also the load range G. Nice not to worry about exceeding tire capacity!
    Good Luck on your choice!

  • f550 225-70-19.5 G rated. need to ne replaced @100K going to Hercules stears all round. $155.00 each. Tow trucks at the shop getting 75K miles out of them and the drivers do not baby the tires.

Yes the 550 and g rated commercial tires ride like a truck
  • 245's - H - Continentals - 4,940 lbs. load each. A very tough and stiff tire.

    Rickson Eliminator wheels.

I have been very happy with them!
  • I'm running DH-01 Hankook 265's on a stock height Ford Superduty. No clearance issues unless loaded heavy and turned full stop across off-camber surface. Turning radius on the leaf sprung Superduties sucks, so I'm always looking for a football field to turn around in anyway. I have the 5200 pound snow-plow prep front end.

Mine are about run out. They did wander a little when new, but are fine now - or maybe the whole suspension is a little worn and it just find's its own way.

    Cheers.
  • This is my second set of 19.5 Michelins, XDE 246 R70 M+S, 110,000km,presently XDS-2 245 R70 M+S, 12,000km. Both H rated.

They still squirm a bit when on paved roads that have worn dually grooves from heavy logging trucks who ignore break-up load restrictions(B.C.) and lately around Provo, UT road construction on I-15 where highway snakes bach and forth to where the road bed is grooved.

Complete confidence hitting potholes at high speed with a TC aboard or driving gravel with sharp rocks. Carcass is bomb proof.

As others have said, should not be aired down for sand travel.

    Pricey.

  • Yea, I know, I experienced that..

But after the first few thousand miles, the toyo's wanted to keep pulling right. Changed to the kumhos, poof, problem gone. No alignment needed.
  • I'm running the 245-70-19.5 Toyo 608Z, got 24K on them and love them beats the heck out of the original Continental HSR and HDRs. I don't think I would run them on the front end next time though, they are not wearing very good on the front but doing excellant on the rear. 19.5s will wander around for the 1st thousand miles until they break in.
  • I have 245, G rated kumho's. Had toyo 245's (608?) before, didn't really like them (they wandered/pulled really bad)
  • I have the Mitchlen 245/70R19.5 XDE M/S, LOAD [single] 4940@120 psi, LRH. I think the weight implies it is G rated, but do not know that for sure. I have had mine since 2006, and have no intention of changing them until I see a problem.

Being 2WD, the 245's required some inner panel modifications to fit. That puts 265's out of the question for me. Additionally, the 265's would put my overall gear ratio too high. The 245's diameter is pushing it. Considering the 245's LOAD [single] 4940@120 psi, I see no advantage for my with the 265's. Each of the 245's Load capacity is greater than my TC weight.

I have not run other brands of the 19.5's, but would consider them. I have absolutely no issues with my Mitchlen 245/70R19.5 XDE M/S, other than cost. I probably could have done just as well with a non-M/S tire, for my use.
