A lot of drunk posts on this thread. :R
#1. A 9" Ford rear end is not a car rear end. It's an everything rear end. They put that rear end in full size cars AND full size trucks.
I've seen 3,000 HP go through those types of rear ends no problem. If a person really wants to get crazy they make full floaters for them.
#2. The guy is going to have disk brakes all the way around on this setup. Depending on the size the OP "could" have more braking reserve than most modern 1/2 tons of today.
#2. A C6 is a very good tranny. A built C6 is like an anvil. It's only a 3 speed but when you have a lot of power that will not matter.
#3. 429 is a pretty good engine. It's a light casting but still a good engine. A turbo FI 429 is going to be crazy. Even with small boost you can make BIG power.
#4. The OP said he is bracing and boxing the frame so that will stiffen up things significantly.
I drove a turbo small block for over 12 years there is only two thing you really have to worry about and that is your cooling package and detonation.
Turbo engines run HOT! Like REALLY HOT. You're going to have to do everything in your power to make sure everything stays cool. A good friend had a turbo 429 in a 76 Ford 3/4 ton pickup just like your doing and he had cooling problems and detonation problems.
I never did solve the detonation problems entirely and I don't think my buddy did either. He had water injection and could go up to about 8 to 10 PSI before it would rattle the pistons out of the engine.
It's tough to keep an turbo engine cool and keep gas in the tank. :B
PS: People have to remember what we towed with in the past. My dad and I towed with a 1969 Chevy 1/2 ton with a SB and a 12 bolt rear end with 4 way drum brakes. He towed a 7,000 lb TT to Alaska and back and 10's of thousands of miles all over the US with it and it wasn't 1/2 the truck the OP is building.
OP, sounds like a great project! Post up some pictures when you get done! :)
