Thanks for the tip westend. And thanks all, for the compliments.
Today we're bringing out the camper's new name. And the curtains, and the painted and poly-ed bead-board behind the back-splash. Seriously - read that last sentence out loud. ;)
I awoke Friday last and discovered we didn't get as much snow depth as we had feared - DW's plants you know? But I took the floor squeegee out and first cleared off the scaffolding, and then the trailer roof. This had such high water content it was turning blue as it piled together. Awful stuff for a questionable RV roof.
But even so, not as much noticeable water intrusion on the interior as I had expected. Two small corner spots at a couple windows, that one main hole on the roof. I guess I got the duct tape down good on the curb side.
Today we work inside.
Okay first up is getting our real wood fiber panel cut to size - enter ye ole pencil and template.
If you look close you can see the line.
Once cut, I split the board with a seam at the "behind the back-splash" spot.
And stored away the bottom half - it won't get paint as it does its job sort of behind the scenes. The other half was test fit and looked good.
Now before we can paint we have to prep. I scuffed-roughed the paper/vinyl surface of the same style board on Lil' Queeny's repaired wall. And that Primer - whoo boy does it adhere. But even so, there are places it scratched off so very little. The primer-white bead board on Lil' Queeny is in the under cabinets and utility areas, so it's not so big a deal. But on the Roadrunner this part will again be, "in-your-face" at the galley, so....
That faux wood-grain had to come off. Break out the sander.
Also cut to size and prepped are the two smaller sections for additional spots.
Then the primer.
Then the paint.
Look at that match! Can DW call it? (She's very talented you know. I'm such a lucky guy.) By the way, those range parts? From our previous Travel Queen parts camper. I didn't take apart the kid's range - yet. ;) Just kidding. I won't need to do that on their's - it is almost new, pristine even-en.
Now that's still the flat finish, still drying in fact. But before we put on Poly, let's talk curtains.
The day I was rebuilding the cabinet, DW went off shopping for fabric. After a while she shot me two pics of two choices. When I hadn't responded, she also sent them to DD, who shared them with the grandsons and DSIL. So the choice was ALL made, well before I made the same vote.
Okay let's start at the beginning. Remember this?
No, not the furnace. No, not the drain pipe - the colors! (For crying out loud, stick with me here). Blue, green, orange. And the curtains were green on one and blue on the rest? Remember? DSIL suggested the camper name "Skittles", as in the delightful multi-colored candy! And Skittles was one of our two mouser cats we had when the kids were little. Name has a good fit.
But Tomato Soup Red? DD and grandson wondered about "Grilled Cheese Sandwich". You see, everyone was coming up with name suggestions. And it's a Roadrunner, so of course the names "Beep Beep" and "Meep Meep" came up. We even googled Looney Tunes fabric, for just the right thing starring - your friend and mine - Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote, (with an E).
But when we saw the original style decals, and ordered them, the cartoon character of the Roadrunner on the DECALS, and thus, of the original Roadrunner style campers, Looney Tunes kind of seemed like a bastardization - know what I mean? Even though the Fam LOVES Looney Tunes.
Then when DW had such success with the fabric choice - from all parties, a camper name - and the entire camper theme, was discovered. The theme? Route 66!
So the camper's name was a no-brainer (because this camper has felt like a boy for awhile). "Tow-Mater".
Okay, here's why.
DD and her family love the animation movie "Cars".
DSIL is a motor-head.
DD lives with three guys, DSIL, DGS and DGS.
The camper is towed - thus the Tow part.
The camper is a gift to DD and her family. DD is female, a mother, and female. Did I mention she is female? Female is a powerful force in our world! Maternal. Maternal is found in much, of everything! Maternal-Mater. Tow-Mater. Get it? (I had to add the "get it" part in there, as that's the stage DGS is at when he makes a joke. Get it?).
And of course Tow-Mater is a twist of tomato, as in Tomato Soup Red. Get it?
And look how that fabric goes with the bead-board!
Honey!? Have you seen my Honey Tinted Poly?
And then coat #2 on the cabinet. Steel wool first and then after the soak up of coat 1, coat 2 smooths on so nice!
Okay see how this is going to kind of work?
To replace this?
Oh yeah! That's what I'm talking about baby!
