Today: Suspension - greasing the spring pivot pins and shackles.
Just a short post today. Gotta get outside and work on stuff before it gets hot. We might see my daily posts start coming out in mid-day as that's about the time we come in out of the heat for indoor and shaded work. Mornings are more and more dedicated to these cooler hours and that house ain't gonna paint itself!
But still catching up posting work already done. Today, more of that on the suspension.
The tire order fell through. What looked like two remaining tires in the country for a "discontinued price", ended up being one tire. Not gonna do it. So I have my eyes on another tire plan.
Meanwhile, the local trailer supplies store that LIKELY had the axle u-bolts I needed was closed - on Saturdays (yesterday). Another long-time local trailer supply store didn't have an updated phone number in the Yellow Pages App, as the original owner retired and sold and the new owner apparently hasn't checked out their online presence. In both cases, it appears these places of business don't need business from guys like me, or they'd make it easier to contact them, and maybe shop on a Saturday.
I found what I needed at eTrailer.com and made an order. I don't need the parts today. I just need to move FORWARD on the plan today. The last time I made an eTrailer.com order (well previous, because they also sold me my Fantastic Fan for Lil' Queenie), I bought parts for the Spen trailer build, because the local store guys couldn't read small print on its bearings, and their computer was down so their solution was to sell me a modern axle for replacement on my 70 year old trailer.:R
Here's what's coming. I ordered yesterday, and they shipped yesterday.
5" square tube axle u-bolts for 1.5" square axles.
Now the springs have three spots each for greasing, just like almost any spring system with grease zerks.
One at the pivot pin...
And two at the shackle.
I got grease in two spots on one side and one spot on the other. Those which wouldn't accept, got grease zerks removed and a little of the old hard grease kind of dug out, then re-tried.
This time I got grease in the remaining spots, except one. So we'll drive it and get some movement going on and then hit them all again. For an old trailer, all but one is a pretty good deal.
