This is a sad day, and a happy day. This is what is meant to happen when you make a contribution to the world. All you can do is your best - and then you must let go, allow those who come after, to take whatever you've done, and build from there - or tear it down - make the world their own.
Each of us have made our contributions throughout life. Sometimes we do better than we do at other times. And hopefully we learn. If we don't learn, and accept our mistakes and move forward with new vigor for goals which we may gain afresh, then what's the point?
This quote from Thomas Jefferson (one of my favorite philosophers) says it all to me, and this isn't political, just because it talks of country, of constitution, of social norms we live among. Not because it's from a politician. Jefferson, like any politician, was a person first, in spite of his shortcomings, or those of the society he found himself part of.
The reveal was beautiful - it couldn't have been better. Big grins were a constant around our house yesterday morning. When the family left, it was like watching your child leave home. You do things the way you do, for just this very purpose. And yet, it's hard to watch.
DW and I took in a matinee. Might I recommend "Planet of the Apes" (2011-2017 three movies) if you too, are philosophic. Then we swung by the kids house to drop by the camper key we had all forgotten. They had all their camping gear brought in from storage and placed in organized piles over at least two rooms of the house. The buy-in and the personal ownership had taken hold. It was so very obvious, the camper was theirs. :)
That is the happy part, and the melancholy. The sad part is... well.... is there really a sad part? Maybe the sad part is just feeling the sense of melancholy.
Daily posts will now end. As far as we're concerned, the project is finished. Anything done more at this point will be "modifications" or "improvements and upgrades".
Next week we'll get the curtains hung and they will go camping. Word is starting to spread in their group "they have a trailer". The little camper will likely make them the stars of the trip. A new sort of group pecking order occurs with something as simple as this. It shouldn't, but it's a real effect.
We should all, never forget, when we feel a need for personal acknowledgement, welcome, acceptance into our social setting - that's what EVERYBODY needs, what everybody desires. When we don't get it, we develop increasingly nasty traits to get what isn't given. If we could all just help others feel that sense of belonging, what a world we could have!
Thanks for coming along on the adventure of this project.
