These projects can be skill builders and are a much better use of ones time than some hobbies. If you have kids/grandkids get them involved because it can be a life changing experience for them I learned with ours.

good luck with your rebuild, its a challenge as you saw from my posts. Mine is a 70 and about the only thing left of the original camper was the fiberglass roof and sleeper and the snap and nap rear. Dont get discouraged it will be a challenge but I have seen some others rebuilt and they came out factory fresh and sweet. Be careful removing wood, move slow and think twice, I almost caved mine in 3 times, twice with me on the inside :) If I can help with advice just let me know I will do my best. Also dont be afraid to ask on the forum, these guys are great.

Amerigo truckers, I pop in from time to time to see your progress. And I'm very impressed by the rig of AmerigoHauler. What a classic! Reading your comments I see that you have really tried to keep the camper/truck combo as near to original as possible. I hope at some point I get to see one of these in person.

I have been wrangling the Avion crowd to have a Meet Up sometime next year. So far, its been met with what appears to be quiet indifference - heh. But maybe it could be a combined Amerigo, Avion and other classic truck campers Meet Up?

I'm thinking towards the middle of America - perhaps in New Orleans where the weather should be nice in Spring and Fall, the food outstanding, and the libations plentiful.

Yes, that's the way it was when I bought it in the early 90's. The only thing I've done to it is wash and wax it. It does have a small tear in the skin on the vertical part right by the "porch light". It looks like the PO caught it on something . They bent it back in place and sealed it. I've never done anything with it because its not real noticeable.

Hi Joe, When I bought the truck in '09 it still had the original wheels on it front and rear. I was having a hard time finding replacement tires so I decided to go the 16" route. I really wanted to keep the original look so I had Stockton Wheel make me 2 wheels in 16x9.75" with the original backspace of 4.5". I used a set of regular 16x7" wheels on the front.

I ended up putting Goodyear Wranglers sized LT235/85R16 on the front and LT305/70R16 on the rear. These are all load range E tires.

Nice camper...

These sizes are almost identical to the originals that came on the truck.

I am very happy with the combination. The only thing I did different was to paint the wheels Wimbledon White instead of gray.

yeah... I have a slight crack on the front left of the front window. I isn't really bad... but eventually we plan on replacing it. Just not sure (with all we have been doing) we want to tackle that right now. Maybe once we get her done and start getting to enjoy her. By the way... got the entire back end re-built and finished the "bed" part of the snap n nap. Thinking this weekend, we might get the snap n nap back on. At this point... the only thing left, framing wise, is to finish around the hallway vent, so we can re-install that vent. Once these few things are done, the outer skin goes into our "homemade" paint booth for a new paint job. We seriously dedicate at least 30-40 hours a week to this reno.

When I worked on my snap n nap years ago I took the side panels apart and I glued in some of the pink foam board that I cut to fit. It reinforced the panels and I noticed it stayed warmer back there when the snap n nap was opened.

I am curious to see how your vinyl covering works because I would like to hide the cracks in my panels.
