- 45RicochetExplorerWhat are your travel dates :W
To be serious a 20 year old F150 will have to be in tip top shape for those pulls even with the lightest of fifth wheel trailers. Back then a half ton truck was exactly that, a payload of 500 lbs.
Those mountain roads will need to be researched in the Mountain Directory book, as many will not be a pleasant drive.
Good Luck - spoon059Explorer IIThat engine is a beast of an engine, it'll run forever if you take care of it but it won't ever be fast. Those hills will take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to climb with any real weight behind you. I hope you don't have the Mazda 5 speed manual transmission in that though (I think that was only 94-95 that they made that mistake). Your big issue is going to be brakes coming back down the other side of that mountain.
Good luck and keep the speeds and temps down! - nevadanickExplorerGo 88, its no harder of a pull than 50. Dont go 89 through Markleeville, instead stay on 88 until you get to Centerville rd and go across to 395.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIA 93 will either be a 5.0 or 5.8L or....GHAST a 4.9L I-6!!!! it would also be helpful to know the gear ratio in the rear end 3.08, 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10. what is the weight of the loaded 5`er? lots of questions that need answering before we can offer any real help!
Oh and welcome to the forum! :B - jerem0621Explorer IISince its a 1993 its either a 4.9 inline 6, a 5.0, or a 5.8 V8.
OP, Hopefully, you have 3.55 or 3.73 if so I don't think you will have any problem.
If its a 3.08... well, I am not so sure. The bigger the motor the better. If you have an auto transmission please make sure you have a big transmission cooler.
JMHO.. - K_CharlesExplorer4.6 or 5.4
- TankcarExplorerJust almost!
What Type of TV do you have? Remember! You will have to stop what you are pulling!
How high will you go?
Hwy 50 has some good grades on it! The west to east route has a long windy steep down hill. Unless it has been changed. I took a sole low
2500 long bed to get to Portola. - rayford118Exploreryou gonna have that truck working haaarrrddd pulling that camper.
