After going thru 3 or 4 cam position sensors i can guarantee you that they will usually restart after cooling down and then probably run real stupid like, or may run fine and then **** out again without warning. OOOOOOOr, my 99 was different than all the rest of them. :W

My Dad's 99 F350 smoked a cylinder going over Raton Pass 500miles after changing the coolant with no additive . Was still in warranty and Ford fixed it.

I had a 2000 Excursion and a 2000 E350, both with the 7.3. It's a great engine. One vulnerability, which has already been noted, is the Cam Position Sensor (CPS) that is mounted on the front passenger side of the engine. Usually when these fail, the engine will usually start and run for about 5 seconds and then shut down. I also had problems with the wiring harness that connected to the CPS and this could be causing an intermittent problem. I also had issues with the Excursion with the wiring harness to the injectors under the rocker cover rubbing and shorting out.

You might be time and money ahead to have a qualified diesel mechanic check it out and make any repairs. It's a good truck and would be worth the investment.

Shocks - Put Bilsteins on it and you won't have to do it again.

There are lots of oil filters out there, many of them cheaply made. When I took delivery of my 2013 6.7, the service manager told me to always use Ford oil filters, even if I changed the oil myself. Also air filters. Diesels pull lots of air through an air filter and cheap ones can deform. Don't want to pay dealer prices ? Amazon is your friend.

X2 on the cam sensor, when they go the truck won't start. And carry a spare, and a 10MM wrench or socket to change,

Put a 6.0 trans cooler on it.
