1st Camping Trip of The Year!

We finally took our first camping trip this year (I know the camping season is about over). Just too many things happened this year to get out more.

We went to central Idaho, East of Sun Valley for our trip. We stayed in a campground called Phi Kappa which is in the Challis National Forest at an elevation of 7500 feet. The days were sunny with highs around 65 and the night time lows 23 to 34. Stayed 7 days and enjoyed every minute. Did some grouse hunting, a lot of fishing, hiking and some relaxing. We saw moose, big horn sheep, mountain goats, dear, antelope and a wolf!

This trip was a lot different from other camping trips. Got a cracked windshield on the truck, a screw in the rear tire, furnace on the trailer stopped working the 4th night and the front leaf spring on the trailer snapped in half. Luckily, we were able to drive 160 miles to Boise, Idaho and got all of the repairs done except for the trailer furnace. We made it safely back to California.

In spite of all that happened, it was a fantastic trip to the “boon toolies”! Thought I would share a couple of pictures with everyone.

  • Living in Florida we don't get to see those type of animals unless we were drive a long, long, long way or stop at a zoo. What a wonderful experience.
  • Thanks for posting. I would have a difficult time leaving that behind to go back home!
  • Glad you enjoyed our back yard and I'm happy there are a few places left that didn't burn this summer.
  • The camp ground is named after Phi Kappa creek that runs behind the camp ground. Great fishing too!
  • Better late than never!
We happen to fall into the later category this year....though we do have a longer season here, so maybe we'll get lucky:)

Beautiful pictures, and it's obvious that you may have saved the best for last (and only) at that place! What is the deal with the Phi Kappa Campground? Are they sponsored by the Fraternity/Sorority?
  • That's the spirit.....bad stuff happens, things break and its still an awesome trip. Good for you seeing the positive side of the experience. Sounds (and looks) like a great place to camp.

  • Awesome and amazing. I took the wife on a white water rafting trip just north of boise before my last deployment. I could savor the woods to this day. Grats to ya !! Absolutely beautiful.
  • dry camping is the best camping .
the folks with hookups don't realize how much greater the experience is .
    thank you for sharing .
